HARMONY - TEACHER WORKSHOPS

Professional development for teachers combines theory and hands-on learning. Through exploration with HARMONY puzzles, we facilitate self-discovery while exploring transformative education principles. These concepts can be applied to various teaching and learning contexts, enhancing your self-awareness and inspiring new teaching and learning approaches. With the training you not only widen your understanding of the foundations of education for human unity, but also become well practiced in HARMONY puzzles.

Through the workshop teachers learn to bring awareness to the operations of their consciousness. Learning and growth is the conscious work of self-discovery, increasing self-knowledge through interactions with the world. Teachers who have completed the workshop will be able to facilitate the HARMONY SCHOOL MATERIAL.

Education for Peace and Human Unity

Education for peace is essential in today's world, as it helps address global challenges such as conflict and inequality while fostering understanding and cooperation across diverse communities. As a result, education systems worldwide are incorporating peace education into national curriculums, often through Global Citizenship Education (GCE) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). GCE equips students with the knowledge, skills, and values to engage in a just, peaceful, and sustainable world, encouraging critical thinking, empathy, and respect for diversity. SEL focuses on developing self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation, helping students build stronger interpersonal relationships and navigate conflicts constructively. Together, these approaches promote peace-building, inclusion, and collaboration, teaching students the importance of working toward harmony and unity.

Exercising mental capacities - YOGA for the MIND

HARMONY is a unique educational material, cultivating these important mental capacities needed to embrace diversity, foster inclusivity, and contribute to global peace. Through puzzle play, children learn to imagine how different pieces fit together from various perspectives, exploring the possibility of infinite solutions. The ability to arrange puzzle pieces in countless ways encourages creative thinking and problem-solving. As children experiment with different combinations and create new patterns, they experience the satisfaction of creating harmony, mirroring the collaborative work needed in peace-building. Furthermore, puzzles offer a unique opportunity to integrate both art and mathematics, providing an activity-based experience. Children enhance their spatial awareness and develop a deeper understanding of patterns, orientation, symmetry and placement through the kaleidoscope concept.

Additionally, the HARMONY puzzles foster critical cognitive skills such as fine motor development, visual perception, and eye-hand coordination. As children rotate and place puzzle pieces, they strengthen their ability to coordinate visual information with hand movements, promoting cognitive development in a fun and interactive way. The puzzles also enhance attention span and patience, as children focus on solving challenges without distractions. This process of trial and error helps build perseverance, self-confidence, and independent problem-solving abilities. The infinite possibilities for arranging puzzle pieces encourage creativity and divergent thinking, which are key to nurturing creative thinking skills - its YOGA for the MIND. Ultimately, through this puzzle play, children not only improve their cognitive abilities but also learn the value of working together to create harmony, both in design and in relationships.

Learning concepts Self-Observation Encouraging higher-order thinking in students involves advancing from basic cognitive skills, like remembering and understanding, to more complex processes such as analyzing, assessing, and creating. This progression helps students apply their knowledge in new and innovative ways, fostering deeper learning. Guided self-observation is crucial in this process, as it allows students to reflect on their thinking, track their cognitive growth, and become more aware of their learning journey. Mapping and reflecting their strategies and inner processes enables students to refine their approaches, gain new insights, and develop a deeper understanding of their mind, body and emotions. The Kaleidoscope Effect Kaleidoscope puzzles promote a broader mindset by embracing complexity, unpredictability, and interconnectedness. The kaleidoscope effect highlights how diverse elements can combine to create evolving patterns. These puzzles foster adaptability and flexible problem-solving by encouraging children to consider various perspectives while tackling challenges. As players engage with more complex puzzles, they develop critical thinking and mental models, recognizing that both puzzles and life are shaped by continuous change and complexity. Exploring the Concept of Harmony The idea of harmony in kaleidoscope puzzles emphasizes collaboration and the acceptance of diverse choices. It encourages players to respect and integrate differing perspectives as they work together to solve the puzzle. The evolving patterns in the puzzle reflect the beauty of these varied contributions, illustrating how diverse ideas can lead to harmonious outcomes. This collaborative approach fosters teamwork, a flexible mindset, and encourages students to navigate challenges with openness, adaptability, and respect for others' ideas. Creative Thinking Developing creative thinking in children ages 6-12 is essential for their cognitive, emotional, and social growth, especially as they transition from childhood to adolescence. Creative thinking is often connected to spatial intelligence, which involves visualizing and manipulating stimuli from multiple perspectives. Kaleidoscope puzzles encourage divergent thinking, allowing children to come up with multiple solutions to a single visual puzzle, thereby enhancing their problem-solving skills and creativity. When children work together on puzzles, they not only improve their spatial intelligence but also develop the ability to approach problems from various angles, boosting their overall creativity. Spatial awareness and Mathematics Spatial awareness and mathematics can be seen as the language of the universe, serving as the framework through which we understand and interpret the natural world. From the intricate patterns found in nature to the movements of celestial bodies, mathematics and spatial concepts such as symmetry, proportion, and geometry embody the underlying harmony that governs the universe. These principles transcend cultural and linguistic barriers, providing a common language to explain everything from the smallest atoms to the vastness of galaxies. Just as music can be understood universally through rhythm and melody, the language of mathematics and spatial awareness connects us all, offering a way to perceive and appreciate the elegant balance and order present in the world around us. - Rotation Rotation is the circular movement of an object around a central point, determining the object’s placement and orientation. This transformation occurs as the object changes in relation to its surroundings, emphasizing the importance of perspective and positioning in understanding its relationship with the environment. - Symmetry Symmetry refers to mirror images and their reflections, crucial for recognizing patterns and repetitions. In kaleidoscope puzzles, patterns are reflected around central lines of symmetry, sharpening the mind to notice both similarities and differences. This fosters attention to detail and an appreciation for balanced designs. - Pattern Construction A pattern is a repeated arrangement of elements such as shapes, colours, or forms. Kaleidoscope puzzles help create patterns by incorporating rotation and symmetry, guiding the mind to recognize regularity, continuity, and harmony. This process also encourages the identification of when a pattern is disrupted or incomplete. - Complex Pattern Construction Complex patterns emerge from combining various components, considering rotation, placement, and mirroring/symmetry. Patterns form around rotating center lines in the kaleidoscope, with each piece contributing to the creation of new designs. By exploring and collaborating on these puzzles, players experience the infinite possibilities of arrangement and the realization that there’s no single “correct” way.
